Details

Blood Echoes is a collection of essays and interviews that testify to Bloodborne’s enduring power, and attempt to explain the strong magic it exerts to this day.

The approach is prismatic, filtering the game through the hard-won illumination of essays published shortly after launch, plus a variety of newer essays and interviews commissioned by our guest editor, Simon Parkin (The New YorkerThe Guardian), exclusively for this anthology.

We are also delighted to have the blessing of Future Press to republish a long out-of-print interview they conducted with Miyazaki for their official Bloodborne guide. We can’t thank them enough, truly, for giving this conversation a second life.

‘Our eyes have yet to open… Fear The Old Blood.’

About the Illustrator

Shimhaq was born on the small island S.Feydhoo, in the southernmost atoll of the Maldives. When he was young, his family moved to the capital Malé, in search of a better education for the children and a better life. Growing up, he was surrounded by creative people in his family, and took inspiration from cartoons like Thundercats, Transformers and Digimon, that encouraged him to draw. After high school, he returned to his art when he attended university.

Since then he has worked with major film studios like 20th Century Studios, Warner Bros. and Universal, alongside game studios like Bethesda, Sony Santa Monica and Naughty Dog. Collaborations with Blizzard and Larian have been personal highlights. He’s also been able to work with the team behind Berserk, a favourite manga. He is a regular on the convention circuit, meeting fans and inspiring artists in the UK, Europe, Asia and the USA.
